HCTV Unsung Hero

Hastings is full of good people doing good things. The Unsung Hero award is just our little recognition for those who consistently put others before themselves. It can be a single incident of saving someone's life, or years of volunteering to make sure others are taken care of. They all do it without one “look at me.” You can look at them in each of our newscasts when we spring the surprise and hear from those closest to the deserving Unsung Hero (CH 14 schedule).

Congratulations to this Week’s Unsung Hero:  Marin Peterson

There is a woman in Hastings who has an amazing heart for other people.  Marin Peterson is active in “flipping houses.”  She finds a house that is in need of repair, and then calls in her contractor-type friends to put the house back into livable condition.

They have to hurry because Marin has people waiting to move in.  Sometimes it’s a single Mom with children.  Other times, it’s an elderly couple who could no longer afford to live in their long-time residence.  Whatever the need, Marin will move heaven and earth to make things right.

She does these things even during rough times in her own family.  Marin’s husband, Russ, underwent colon surgery and needs to have at least three more surgeries before he can return to work in 2009.

We caught up with Marin at a special benefit held for her husband at The Point restaurant.  Naturally she immediately started pointing out other “more worthwhile” people to us.  Of course those people pointed right back at Marin, this week’s Unsung Hero.
